PSA: BYO cup to Wawa STILL Wastes a Plastic Cup

Looking for clarification on the title of this post? This photo should help you out. This morning, in Jersey, I went to a Wawa with a reusable cup. I've done this before and have usually had no trouble.

Here's the general process:

1. Place your order on the touch screen and click "special order".
2. An employee will call out your number and ask what your special order is.
3. Give them your reusable cup (but keep the lid and straw) and have them keep it for your order.
4. Your order comes out in your reusable cup. (Well, hopefully.)

Today, however, my order came out in a plastic cup with a plastic lid. I was to dump that drink into my reusable cup and, you guessed it, place the other cup in the trash or recycling bin. This STILL uses (and wastes) a plastic cup in the process.

I saw this happen once a few months ago at Starbucks, which is CRAZY seeing as they sell their own reusable cups in store. I can tell you that the neighborhood coffee shop down the street from my apartment in Philly does NOT waste a plastic cup in the process of filling up reusable cups. Has this happened to you? When you bring in your reusable cup, is another cup wasted in the process? Where has this happened to you before and what have you done about it? PLEASE share this post with as many people as you can to bring awareness to big companies everywhere. Let's discuss over on the Facebook page.

Has not happened to me but I would be annoyed. I wonder if it occurs to those employees that people use reusables to reduce waste. Like maybe they just think people are weird about cups and don’t realize we care about the consequences of our actions. Some people just don’t think that way and you have to explain it to them
