Earth Day 2020

This year, Earth Day may be celebrated a bit differently. With the beaches closes, parks restricted, and human contact needing to be kept at a 6 foot minimum distance, you may be thinking "is there anything I can even do to celebrate Earth Day?" Yes, there is. I'm including some things you can do starting tomorrow that you can continue after Earth Day as well as some companies whose products I use on a regular basis and whose missions I believe in.

Celebrate At Home (for FREE!)

  1. Turn off your smartphone: Reduce your environmental impact by simply switching off your devices for a bit. It's easy to get stuck in the dreaded Instagram scroll nowadays, but challenge yourself for at least ONE HOUR tomorrow to turn off your device. (BONUS: Tune in to what that does for your mental state. Do you find yourself anxious about wanting to turn it back on? Happy it's off? Anything related to a technological addition?)
  2. Go for a walk, at a safe distance: Get outside! Breathe fresh air, listen to the sounds of the wind and birds, and get active. Practice safe distancing and mask wearing regulations.
  3. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth: We can save about 3-4 gallons of water a day as individuals by turning the water off while brushing our teeth
  4. Take a cold shower: WHAT? You read that right. Opt for a cold shower tomorrow to reduce the energy you use while showering. (BONUS: A cold shower can aid in boosting your immune system and reducing stress.)
  5. DIY some home products: Spend some time making things at home! Need to table cleaner? Check out this multipurpose cleaner recipe. Out of mouthwash? Try my homemade mouthwash recipe.
  6. Clean our your closet: While you may not be able to donate clothing items just now, declutter your mind and closet while prepping for donation bins to open up again. Times are stressful right now. If you have items that you don't need, consider getting them ready to go for those in need as soon as it is safe to donate.
  7. Support eco-friendly businesses if you are able to shop: More below.
  8. Before you shut down your phone, re-watch this music video (WARNING: Explicit language)
  9. Get your binge on with Planet Earth, Stink!, and more.
  10. Read that book you've been meaning to read BEFORE buying another one.

Companies and Items to Shop

Note: Using what you have is always the most eco-friendly option. Below are some specific products that I use on a daily basis from companies that I support when I can. I understand that these times aren't the most ideal shopping times, but if you have the means to do so, please read on for more suggestions!
  1. Sustain Natural: If you've been wanting to make the switch to more natural period products, Sustain Natural is the way to go and now is a great time to get more familiar with your body and your cycle. Reduce the chemicals going into your body and opt for the more eco-friendly products available to use! (Free 5-piece Gift Set to Grove Collaborative using my referral link!)
  2. Grove Collaborative: For DIY handsoaps and cleaning sprays, head to Grove Collaborative for the perfect glass dispensers. (Free 5-piece Gift Set to Grove Collaborative using my referral link!)
  3. Leaf Safety Razor: I purchased my razor via Package Free Shop and absolutely love it! In times like today, we don't want to be running to the store to pickup more disposable razors because a) PLASTIC and b) stay at home. I was afraid of the safety razor for so long, but after the first use, I laughed at how silly that was. ($10 off your first order of $40+  via this referral link!)
  4. Bite Toothpaste Bits: Bye bye plastic tubes, hello glass storage and plastic-free refills! I love Bite, you'll love Bite. It's weird. It's fun. It's the future. (Sorry y'all, no referral discount, but it's worth every penny.)
  5. Who Gives a Crap: I love this company. Not only are their products made from eco-friendly materials, but 50% of their profits are donated to build toilets for people in need. High quality company, high quality product, high quality WIN! ($10 off your first purchase of $48+ using this link!)
  6. Dropps Laundry Detergent Pods: Gone are the days of sticky, giant, plastic laundry detergent containers. Now, we have Dropps to provide chemical/toxin free, vegan laundry detergent. ($20 off your first subscription plan with my referral link!)
  7. doTERRA Essential Oils: Used to reduce toxins in your household cleaners, for therapeutic benefits, and so much more, essential oils are nature's medicine. Join my team for addition savings, resources, and a community of like-minded people! (Link here includes: Deep Blue Rub, Lemon, On Guard, and Serenity PLUS Wholesale Membership for one year!)

What are you planning to do to celebrate Earth Day this year? How are you doing during these times? I'd love to hear from all of you! Head over to the Conscious Living Facebook page to leave and questions or comments. Let's chat!
